Well, hello!
I’m Lizzy Dening and I’m a national journalist for titles including Vogue, The Guardian, Grazia and Marie Claire.
I’m also self-employed.
In 2019 I was made redundant from a full-time magazine job, and had to quickly mobilise myself to begin life as a freelance writer.
I’ve absolutely loved it - I’m not sure I’d ever go back to office life - but there have certainly been challenges. One of them in particular was that many of my friends were in full-time employment, and couldn’t relate to some of the unique ups and downs of being my own boss.
That’s what inspired Out of Office. It’s a newsletter - and so much more - aimed at other women* like me. If you’ve got questions, concerns, or even celebrating to do, around your business, this is the place for you.
I’ll be speaking to business experts from around the globe, on topics including how to stay motivated, which types of social media work for your brand, why and how to start outsourcing, and how to network if you’re shy. I’ll also be gathering pearls of wisdom from other self-employed women about the ins and outs of how they run their business.
That’s without mentioning Out of Office’s friendly Facebook group, which is full of like-minded women.
Any specific topics you’d love to hear more about - just drop me a line.
* Anyone who identifies as a woman, OOO is an inclusive space. Of course you’re welcome to subscribe however you identify, but there will be certain posts written specifically with women in mind.
Welcome future colleague, I’m so glad you’re here.
